At the same time, the software relies on the familiar user interface of all Office products from 2016, making it easy for both newcomers and those using Visio for the first time to get started.

Simple flowcharts, which are frequently used in projects, are available in an even wider selection in the new Microsoft Visio Standard 2019. This simplifies visualization: Instead of tedious work processes, users choose from dozens of templates with a total of thousands of stencils. Depending on the intended purpose, precisely those diagrams are available that are best suited for the task. These diagrams can then be shared with others via the cloud—for example, employees working on the same project from home.

The program scans the file formats supported by Microsoft Visio Standard 2019 in real time. As soon as the contents of a file whose content is currently represented in a diagram in Visio change, the display within the application also changes immediately. If new information flows into the data records, this directly affects the diagram in Visio Standard 2019. All finished diagrams are then also accessible via the browser. Visio is not required to view a finished project and its visualization. This is ideal for sharing diagrams with customers and business partners.

In Visio Standard 2019, Microsoft has refined, among other things, the intelligent search feature introduced in the previous version. This allows people unfamiliar with the program to more quickly find the functions that lead to their desired goal. Many new effects and designs also visually define the necessary shape for particular information to be particularly succinct. This is also useful, for example, for highlighting recurring patterns or for visually appealing presentation of symbols, colors, and bar charts. Even complex series of information can be visually presented with the new Visio Standard 2019 to present data in a comprehensible manner.

Diagrams produced using Microsoft Visio Standard 2019 also work across systems. This means that diagrams can be viewed on almost any device and using any operating system. This is made possible by browser support for diagrams and apps, which are available, for example, in the Apple Store for tablets such as the iPad Pro. Using diagrams on a touchscreen with multitouch support is particularly intuitive, as users can simply zoom in and out with their finger. Diagrams may be created on a computer, but users can present them vividly on any device.

As with every new product in the Office 2019 family, Microsoft requires a Windows 10 installation for Visio Standard 2019 to create diagrams. Therefore, the software can only be used with one of the editions of Windows 10. This product key is for a single device, such as a desktop PC or laptop. Microsoft guarantees new updates for this Visio Standard 2019 license for at least five years after the software's release date.
